A unique fals of the ‘judge’ al-Muhasin
Lot 4046
ISLAMIC, Ayyubids. Aleppo. al-Muhasin Baha al-Din Yusuf, circa AH 613-615 / circa AD 1216-1218. Fals (Copper, 14 mm, 1.89 g), citing al-Muhasin, Halab, without date. Album 838M. Apparently the first known coin of al-Muhasin Baha al-Din Yusuf. Very fine.

From the collection of Dr. D. Löer, ex Album 34, 23 May 2019, 539.

Al-Muhasim (1145-1234) was a 'qadi' ('judge' in Arabic) in Halab after Saladin's death in AH 589. This coin confirms that al-Mutasim had the right to strike copper coins after the death of al-Zahir, perhaps during the short interregnum before the confirmation of the legitimate successor to the throne.
